There’s the Ganaful of Ketugram and here’s the Kheruyagram of Magalkote thana. The restless Ajay flows across them. Now it has become like dry wood. Sand cutting from the river’s womb has begun. The rainy season is coming. They forget eating, taking bath and everything else but cutting the sand by the machine all the day. The big trucks have started to get in the Ajay. Then the sand loaded trucks run in their highest speed on the way to Nadia and Hoogly. This happens in Balighat of Khedu, in daily basis.
Three days ago, there was found a couple of Vishnurmurti on cutting sand. It was dark black coloured stone. The water of the bridegroom (“doher jol”) and some ghee, added a great shine to it! The height of the first image is three feet. The other statue has a few wounds in the face and chest of the sand cutting machine. The Height is about three and a half feet. Two statues are of the same type. The well-organized “Kirtimukhua” in the upper part of it. There are two types of statues sitting on their feet. On the other side there are “Kinnar” “Kinnari”. The lion elephant motif is used as an appraisal. Lord Vhisnu is standing in an ethnic background. Laksmi and Saraswati are on both sides of them. Two of their friends are peeping from two sides! In the upper right hand of Vishnu there is a “chakra”, in the lower left hand there is a “Shanka”, and the right hand, there is a “padma”. There the Vishn’s Bahan, Gourur has also taken place. According to the specialists, it is believed the two statues are similar with “Vog-Vhisnu” and “Tribikram” forms. The statue is of the fifties to the 12th century. The laborers rescued the statue and kept it in the bankside of the river. At dusk, the villagers took the statue and placed it in a peaceful Shiva temple inside the village. And they started to worship.
The police of Mangalkot Thana were interrupted by the villagers when they came to rescue the statue. The villagers said that the statue will remain in their village. The responsibilities of these statues were taken by the villagers. Many people said that the statue can be kept properly in the village. There are several Vishnu idols are founded in this region. There can be a new direction for tourism in the area. Already the villagers have tried to build the temple and arranged the maintenance of the statue. It is worth mentioning that a Vishnu statue of around four and a half feet long was recovered from the Kheruya village, about twenty years ago. The statue is being worshiped in the village.
